Many Waters Editing

This website was created for Stephanie, a book editor and beta reader. She already had a good idea of what she wanted her website to look like and needed someone who could make it happen. I worked very closely with Stephanie as I created the design to ensure that each font, color, border style, etc. was to her specifications and matched her vision. Good communication was key to the success of the project.

The Problem

Stephanie already had an existing brand through Fiverr and Instagram and wanted the same identity to be displayed throughout the site. She already had some ideas of things she wanted incorporated into the site but also wanted guidance on other aspects of the design. Being an editor requires fine attention to detail so everything had to match her specifications.

The Solution

Good communication and flexibility were the two things I relied most heavily on when working on the project. From the very first mockups, I was getting her feedback every step of the way. Stephanie was really engaged with the designing process, suggesting many changes, color pallets, fonts, and design choices. This was helpful in many regards but also posed it's own challenges as I had to make sure my design implemented all of the constraints set by Stephanie. One key to my success with this, is that during the designing process, I created multiple mockups which helped us both solidify what the end result should look like. I also had to be flexibly and comfortable with changing designs and requirements even if they occurred later in the project.

Applied Skills

Communication

Being clear, concise, and quick to respond all helped the project go smoothly through each step of the process. I am comfortable using multiple channels of communication (email, phone, text, social media) so that I can keep in touch however works best for you.

Hands-On Design

If you would like to have a more hands-on role in the creation of the design, I can incorporate you into every decision both big and small. Stephanie definitely wanted to be included during ever step so I made sure to frequently ask her questions and present options that she could choose from. I will do the extra work of creating mockups of different design variants so that you can be engaged in the process without having your time eaten up.

Flexibility

Being flexible is more than just "being okay" with changing requirements and designs. It requires good project management skills to ensure that making changes, even late into the project, doesn't derail schedule or conflict with previous requirements. I will work with you to ensure that your changes get completed on schedule and within scope.
